  KNIGHT ESSAY CONTEST

 

 

The Tennessee Valley Chapter conducts its annual Knight Essay Contest during the month of December. The 2003-2004 year saw essays submitted for the competition from twelve local high school students.

First place was Ashley Robin, a student at Bob Jones High School. Her essay was titled "Thomas Paine's Influential Aspects on Independence". Second place was Farah Majid of Bob Jones High School whose essay was titled "The Inevitability of the Declaration of Independence". Third Place was  Micaela Ellson also from Bob Jones High School with an essay titled "Thomas Jefferson in the American Revolution". The three winners were invited to read their essays for the chapter membership at the January 2004 luncheon meeting. At the meeting all were presented a monetary awards and a certificate. Miss Robin’s essay was entered into the Alabama State Society competition.

Dr. David Billings, Dean of the College of Administrative Science at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, was the chairman of the judges. Other judges were Dr. Sheri Marie Shuck, Assistant Professor of History at UAH, Dr. Andrew Dunar, Professor of History at UAH and Dr. Johanna Shields, Professor Emeritus of History at UAH.
